We take on bespoke restoration projects for a wide range of vintage and antique boxes and prolong their life for many years to come!
The process
Every box is carefully restored, hinges taken off, cleaned, and polished.
Often the locks are in ‘situ’ but either don’t work or don’t have a key. In most cases, we make a key and 99% of boxes leave us with a working old lock and key or a replacement new lock.
The box is then cleaned, years of old wax and dirt, (sometimes varnish) removed and then traditionally French polished.
The insides are then lined with satin, felt or fine leather and printed marbled paper (depending on the type of box).
Storage trays are made or reused and always protective felt/baize or leather is applied on the base.
A final wax polishing and the box is ready for another 100 years!
